Day 7's required ekphrasis theme is the quotidian. Sometimes, a craftsperson makes some everyday object into a work of art, like GaudĂ's door handles. Sometimes, the carefully designed chair in which you sit or kitchen spoon with which you stir your dinner has art hidden inside it, made mundane by expectations and familiarity. Sometimes the artistry in even the roughly formed cup made by your child, from which you drink your morning coffee, shines through. Tolkien Ekphrasis Week's final theme invites you to find the art in the everyday, whatever that means to you, and praise it.

Our final writing suggestion is writing in your first language or dialect. Whatever that looks like to you, sharing your mother tongue is a gift.
Optional Art Method Theme
Our final suggestion for the artists and craftspeople is to show us the artist in the art. Fingerprints on a clay jug, handprints on a cave wall, a self-portrait, hair accidentally knitted into the scarf… It's great to feel the presence of the maker in the art one loves.

Your final chance to make someone really sad, ekphrastically, is in the art that people will sacrifice themselves for. In a literal sense, there is trying to save paintings from a fire, or sculptures from a war, perhaps. Alternately, the obsessive drive to keep working, to be better, to exhaust yourself in making your masterpiece, to the detriment of all else.
